Elton John is set to write music for The Devil Wears Prada stage adaptation. The Grammy-winning artist will join forces with playwright Paul Rudnick.

Elton John is set to write music for The Devil Wears Prada stage adaptation. The Grammy-winning artist will join forces with playwright Paul Rudnick, who will pen the book and lyrics, to retell the story of Andrea and her tyrannical fashion editor-from-hell Miranda Priestly.

The Devil Wears Prada started life as a best-selling novel by Lauren Weisberger, before being adapted into the Meryl Streep-starring 2006 movie smash that we all know and love to quote today. Elton said: “Re-imagining The Devil Wears Prada for the musical theatre is super exciting. I’m a huge fan of both the book and the feature film and a huge aficionado of the fashion world. “I can’t wait to sink my musical teeth into this hunk of popular culture.”

Kevin McCollum and Fox Stage Productions will produce the musical, although there’s no set date for it yet. In a joints statement, Bob Cohen of Fox Stage Productions and McCollum said: “To bring The Devil Wears Prada to the stage, we knew we needed to find artists as inimitable as the characters in the story. “We needed artists whose work has run the gamut from music and publishing to drama and fashion. We could think of only two names: Elton John and Paul Rudnick. That’s all!” Whoever takes on the role of Miranda has some pretty big shoes to fill…
